Analog Devices has completed its US$1.5bn acquisition of Empower Semiconductor, a maker of integrated voltage regulators (IVRs) that place power conversion directly alongside — or inside — the processor package.

The strategic logic is the power wall. AI accelerators now draw kilowatt-class power at sub-volt levels, and delivering that current efficiently across a board is a first-order engineering constraint. Integrated regulation shortens the delivery path, cutting losses and freeing board area.

For ADI, the deal slots a high-growth, AI-levered product line into its power franchise — and takes a strategic component off the table for rivals in the data-center power chain.
